The Carib Health App:

The Carib Health App is a healthcare app offered by Arts en Zorg B.V. that allows patients to contact a healthcare provider via chat. The Carib Health app is used by Primary Care Caribbean (PCC) in their primary care services on the island of Bonaire.

Arts en Zorg B.V. highly values the protection of your data. This privacy statement is based on the rules laid out in the Personal Data Protection Act on the BES islands (Wbp-BES) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

This privacy statement informs you about how we handle your data.

1. What data do we collect?

Account data:

To use the Carib Health app, we ask you to create an account. During registration, we request the following information:

  • Personal information
  • Contact details
  • Identification data
  • Registered general practice

Chat messages:

Using the chat feature in the Carib Health app, you can directly ask a healthcare provider a question. The content of the chat conversations is stored within the Carib Health app.

2. What are Arts en Zorg B.V.'s obligations?

Arts en Zorg B.V., as the provider of the Carib Health app, is responsible for processing personal data under the GDPR and Wbp-BES. Arts en Zorg B.V. complies with these obligations as follows:

  • Your data is processed for specific purposes described in Chapter 3 of this privacy statement: 'When and for what purposes do we process your data?'.
  • Normally, data is not processed for other purposes. If we wish to use your data for another purpose, we will first ask for your consent, unless legally required to share the data or the processing aligns with the original purpose. You can always withdraw your consent if the processing is based on it.
  • Processing of personal data is carried out in accordance with the legal bases described in the GDPR and Wbp-BES. Processing within Carib Health occurs under the grounds of contract execution, consent, compliance with legal obligations, and legitimate interest.

All employees involved in offering the application are required to handle your personal data confidentially. Additionally, your data is securely protected against unauthorized access.

3. When and for what purposes do we collect your data?

3.1 Account data:

This data is necessary to create a unique login for the application. It is also essential for the healthcare provider to access the correct record in your general practice's information system.

The data collected for this includes your full name, date of birth, email address, phone number, Sedula number, and the name of your general practice. 

3.2 Chat messages:

The chat feature in the Carib Health app allows you to directly ask a healthcare provider a question. The chat is managed by certified healthcare providers from PCC. These providers have access to your medical record in your general practice's information system for proper care delivery. The chat content is only stored in the Carib Health app and is not saved in the information system.

3.3 Appointments at the practice:

You can schedule an appointment with your local general practice through the Carib Health app in consultation with the healthcare provider. After scheduling, the following details are saved in the Carib Health app:

  • Appointment details: date and time.
  • General practice, address, and healthcare provider.
  • Notes by the healthcare provider, such as the reason for the appointment.

4. Unsubscribing:

Want to unsubscribe from the Carib Health app? Go to your profile page in the app and select "Delete Account." All your personal data and chat messages will be removed from the app.

5. Notifications:

We send push notifications and alerts from the Carib Health app to inform you about activity in the app. The content of the messages is only readable after logging into the Carib Health app. These notifications are only sent if you have given permission in the app, but they are essential for proper service.

6. Cookie Statement:

We use temporary cookies during login in the Carib Health app.

7. Sharing personal data with third parties:

Arts en Zorg B.V. does not share personal data with other parties unless necessary for processing based on the mentioned legal grounds.

Important subprocessors are:

  • Subprocessor 1: Microsoft
    Purpose of processing: MS Azure services
    Processing location: European Economic Area
  • Subprocessor 2: BeeHealthy
    Purpose of processing: Platform service Carib Health app
    Processing location: European Economic Area

8. Security measures:

We have implemented extensive organizational and technical measures to protect your data. Arts en Zorg B.V. is audited annually and works with certified IT service providers. Your data remains entirely confidential. Contracts with third parties stipulate that they implement organizational and appropriate technical security measures and do not process your data for other purposes.

9. Retention periods:

We retain your data as long as necessary for the purposes outlined in this privacy statement. Medical data must be kept for twenty years (calculated from the last addition). Chat messages in the Carib Health app are considered medical data and are stored for twenty years. Once your account is deleted, the data cannot be retrieved if you reuse the app.

10. Your rights:

You have rights concerning your data:

  • Right to access a copy of your data
  • Right to rectify or supplement your data
  • Right to delete your data ('right to be forgotten')
  • Right to data portability
  • Right to restrict data processing
  • Right to object to data processing

These rights are not absolute. Each case is assessed to determine if your request can be honored. To exercise your rights, you can make a request verbally or in writing to Arts en Zorg B.V.. Your interests can also be represented by an authorized representative (such as a written proxy or your guardian or mentor).

This privacy statement may be updated by Arts en Zorg B.V.. Therefore, it is advisable to regularly read the privacy statement. In the app, you can always view the most recent version of the privacy statement and the latest update date.
